Test basis. NFRC guidelines, single-pane nominal 1/4 inch (6 mm) clear glass. *IRER (infrared energy rejection) measures the total heat experienced from solar infrared radiation, 780 to 2500 nm, including both absorbed and re-radiated energy. **SIRR (solar infrared rejection) measures the proportion of solar infrared radiation, 780 to 2500 nm, that is not directly transmitted through the glass. VLT = visible light transmittance. VLR = visible light reflectance. TSER = total solar energy rejected. SHGC = solar heat gain coefficient. N/A = not available at this time. A dash means the value is not yet published.

Test basis. NFRC guidelines, single-pane nominal 1/4 inch (6 mm) clear glass. IRER measures the total heat experienced from solar infrared radiation, 780 to 2500 nm, including both absorbed and re-radiated energy. IR rejection at 1025 nm is a single-wavelength figure and reads higher than IRER; compare films on IRER and TSER.

What the numbers mean

What is VLT?
Visible light transmittance is the percentage of visible light that passes through the glass and film. A lower number means a darker film: 5% is very dark, 70% is nearly clear.
What is TSER?
Total solar energy rejected is the percentage of the sun's total energy (visible light, infrared and ultraviolet) that the glass and film stop from entering. It is the best single number for comparing how much heat a film blocks.
What is the difference between IRER and SIRR?
Both cover solar infrared from 780 to 2500 nm. IRER counts the total infrared heat you experience, including energy the film absorbs and re-radiates inward. SIRR counts only the infrared that is not directly transmitted through the glass, so SIRR is always the higher figure.
Why is IR rejection at 1025 nm higher than IRER?
It is measured at a single wavelength where ceramic films perform best. IRER covers the full solar infrared range, so it is the more realistic figure.
What are SHGC and shading coefficient?
Solar heat gain coefficient is the fraction of solar energy that gets through, from 0 to 1. Lower means less heat. Shading coefficient is the same idea expressed relative to clear 1/8 inch glass.
What are U-value and emissivity?
U-value measures how readily heat passes through the glass because of a temperature difference; lower insulates better. Emissivity measures how much heat the surface radiates; lower emissivity keeps more heat on the side it came from.
What glass were these films tested on?
Single-pane, nominal 1/4 inch (6 mm) clear glass, following NFRC guidelines. Results on tinted, low-E or double-pane glass will differ.

Reported values are based on representative product samples and are subject to normal manufacturing variation. Actual performance may vary with glass type and glass properties. Calculated values may differ slightly between similar products due to averaging and rounding.
